During April 2-3 and April 5-6, 2024, the Gender and Development team in Cambodia held a training on peaceful communication and self-awareness in Kampong Chhnang and Pursat provinces. The aim was to help participants think about how they communicate in their families and communities and strengthen relationships, especially between couples and with village facilitators.” After the training ended, many people were interested in learning about non-violent communication during the question-and-answer session. They were particularly focused on active listening and effective negotiation skills that they could use in their daily lives, especially the ones related to winning in negotiations.
 
On April 9, 2024, management team and staff of GADC brought alms to the monks at Wat Botum Kongkea Pagoda called Wat Bak Kheng to receive monks’ blessings before the upcoming Khmer New Year. During this occasion, GADC Team wishes all individuals, including those with diverse gender and disability, equal rights, including legal protections against discrimination and violence.
 
On 24 March 2024, the project “Collective action for Gender Equality” implemented by Gender and Development for Cambodia (GADC) supported by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) conducted a kick-off meeting for new members of Gender Warriors at Sunway Hotel. In total there were 20 participants (women:14, LGBTQIA+: 1, men:5).
The kick-off meeting made the new members of Gender Warriors are aware about GADC’s programs, community outreach program and the goal of Gender Warrior. They built communication and networking with Gender Warriors from previous term as well.
 
April 1, 2024 – Under the support of SIDA SCO Strengthening Project for Child Rights, GADC Programme staff conducted a field visit to Tasal Commune to discuss youth participation in the commune investment plan with the commune chief, member of Commune Committee for Women and Children (CCWC), and the commune clerk. This was followed by hosting project management team from Save the Children to discuss matters with the Andoung Snay Commune council on April 3, 2024. During the field visit, GADC& SCI staff also engaged with 6 youth leaders(3 Females) to explore their best practices and the challenges faced at the grassroots level.
 
As part of the Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls with Disability Project, GADC team organized a sharing workshop on the gender concept, covering both the fundamental concept and gender in waffle pieces (intersectionality wheel), to our target group, people with disability (PwD) and caregivers. Participants have understood and discussed gender concepts in the context of diversity, as well as how these concepts are reflected in personal behaviors, perceptions, and beliefs in their daily life.
 
Participants who are women migrant workers shared their challenges and experiences of their undocumented migration from travelling cross-border till work in Thailand in the provincial workshop on “Reflection the challenges of women migrant workers and develop intervention plan for women migrant workers” which took place on March 21, 2024, at the Cambodian Red Cross branch in Prey Veng province. Provincial Department of Labor and Vocational Training
in Prey Veng province presented a complaint mechanism and the Provincial Department of Women’s Affairs presented a mechanism for assisting victims of gender-based violence and human trafficking. The two departments provided participants with telephone numbers for further communication. The provincial workshop was attended by a total of 19 participants (13 women, 6 men), composed of representatives of women migrant workers, officials of the Provincial Department of Labor and Vocational Training, officials of the Department of Women’s Affairs in Prey Veng province, a head of Women & Children’s Consultative Committee, a head of Cambodian Red Cross branch in Prey Veng province, a representative of international labor organization
(ILO) and a representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
 

113th Anniversary of International Women’s Day “Invest in diverse women migrant workers: Accelerate progress.”
On 23 March 2024, women beneficiaries of the project “By Women For Women” that partnership between Gender and Development for Cambodia (GADC) and International Labor Organization (ILO) took a lead in conducting International Women’s Day (IWD) in Wat Pong Pors, Baphnom district, Prey Veng Province. In total there were 42 participants (women 34, men:8).


Through the campaign, the participants are aware about value of women migration workers and that they need to be invested, awareness about existing scheme of the government that avail for women migration worker and how they can have access to these schemes. The campaign created a space for women migrant worker to advocate for support in response to their practical needs.


Women migrant workers raised important messages to the local authority and relevant departments to be informed and take actions to response to their needs that 1). Invest in decent wages for women migrant workers. and 2). Invest to build skills that respond to the labor market for women.

On 28th March 2024, our participants from diverse backgrounds and GADC team have celebrated these marked achievements in HERstory as we celebrate the strength and resilience of women around the world, we continue to uplift, empower, and support each other.
 
Our participants have brought their perspectives altogether into the community landscapes where they inspired to amplify their voices for friendly accessibility in education, healthcare and public services for everyone especially people with disabilities.
 

“I am more confident in working with the community” a young woman said after attending a training with Gender and Development for Cambodia (GADC) team through FemLeding project on introducing to advocacy, meeting with decision makers and community engagement plan on 12-13 in Kampong Chhnang province and 15-16 of March 2024 in Pursat province.
GADC used participatory approach and art-based facilitation to make the training run smoothly, specially ensure that all the young women were able to express their opinions and have a lively discussion. Through this training, young women of the two provinces have increased their knowledge of what advocacy is, the advocacy cycle, the process, and the readiness in meeting with decision makers, as well as to advocacy plan with relevant stakeholders, especially community level on addressing priority issue.

Chiang Mai, Thailand: Three representative migrant women from #Cambodia with the support from ILO join 23rd Women Exchange Get Together (WE Get) forum with other more than 100 Burmese migrant women from March 5-9, 2024. We come together to build a network. We support and empower one another. On 8th March, all participants join the public International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is “Inspire Inclusion.”

In these 5 days forum, #migrant #women share with one another about development strategic plan, financial knowledge, build an association of domestic #workers, skillful parenting and learn what we can do as a consumer in a global chain to bring #justice for women workers.

We are women, we are invincible!
